Mackline Bastien

Mackline Bastien is a staff attorney in the Boston office of Berman Tabacco. She focused her practice on uncovering and analyzing evidence on complex securities litigation within the firm’s document discovery team.

Prior to joining the firm in 2015, Mackline established her practice representing and advising clients on various family, business and housing matters. In 2012, she worked for a solo practitioner in New York on all pre-trial aspects of Fair Labor Standard Act matters.

In law school, Mackline played an active role in the school’s mock trial competitions. She competed as an attorney and witness for her school’s team on the regional level. Later, she served as a Judge for several mock trial competitions at her school. In addition to competing, she served as the communications director on the mock trial board.

Committed to giving back to the Boston community, Mackline has been an active volunteer, both professionally and personally. Since 2006, Mackline has served as an active pro-bono attorney for the Volunteers Lawyers Project. In addition, since 2017, she has served as a financial coach for the Boston chapter of Budget Buddies. During the holidays, she serves in the kitchen for food preparation and meal delivery in her local community.

Experience

  • Currently, serves as a member of the litigation teams in a class action case where a biotech company is alleged to have made misleading, false, and omitted statements in their Registration Statement, as it went public in its IPO, leading investors to believe that the company’s promoted star-product would be highly successful once it launched commercially.
  • Served as a member of the litigation team bringing bid-rigging/market manipulation cases alleging that several major banks colluded to manipulate numerous financial benchmark rates, including Yen Libor, the EuroYen Tibor and Euribor.
  • Served as member of the litigation team in the class action Daccache, et al. v. Raymond James Financial, Inc., et al., No. 16-cv-21575 (S.D. Fla.), brought on behalf of investors in limited partnerships associated with the Jay Peak Ski Resort in Vermont. Plaintiffs, foreign nationals whose investments were made through the federal “EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program,” allege that over $200 million in investor funds were misappropriated and/or otherwise misused in an elaborate, Ponzi-like scheme. In early 2017, defendant Raymond James & Associates, Inc. agreed to a $150 million settlement with plaintiffs and the court-appointed receiver for the Jay Peak Ski Resort.
  • Prior to joining Berman Tabacco, conducted document analysis and review on electric discovery for several prominent law firms in Boston in preparation of large-scale litigation in matters regarding: SEC investigations, anti-trust matters, commodities trade, misappropriation of trade secrets, patent disputes, pharma/biotech and environmental remediation efforts with the EPA.
  • Prior to joining Berman Tabacco, represented clients in Boston Housing Court, Suffolk Probate & Family Court, prepared documents for incorporation for profit and non-profit entities and advised clients regarding entity registration options while working as a solo practitioner.
